CareBirds was founded by people who experienced the broken staffing system from both sides — as workers chasing timesheets, and as managers scrambling to fill night shifts at midnight. We built the platform we wished existed.
Dignity in care starts with dignity at work
The UK care sector is facing a staffing crisis. Agency fees are eating into budgets. Workers are underpaid and undervalued. Residents suffer when shifts go unfilled. CareBirds exists to fix the broken middle layer — connecting the right worker to the right shift, transparently and fairly.
We believe that when care workers are treated with respect — paid promptly, given flexibility, supported with training — the quality of care improves for everyone. That's not idealism. It's what the data shows.
How CareBirds came to be
The idea
Co-founders experienced first-hand the chaos of care staffing — a nurse chasing a late payslip, a manager calling 30 workers at midnight for emergency cover. CareBirds is founded in Edinburgh.
Beta launch
First 50 workers and 8 care homes onboarded across Edinburgh and the Lothians. The GPS check-in feature alone eliminated £40k of timesheet disputes in the first quarter.
Scotland-wide
Expanded to Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, and Stirling. Launched integrated CPD training, digital handover reports, and the facility rating system.
12,000+ workers
Crossed 12,400 verified workers and 840 facilities. Launched the AI shift-matching engine and weekly automated payroll. UK expansion underway.
